'Songs From The Hypnagogic Cave'

Review by Renato Malizia (The Blog That Celebrates Itself)

//Before anything, the most prudent to you, outsider and beginner, or even, you, initiated to the universe in which Guilherme Almeida, or, for the most intimate, Electric Lo Fi Seresta navigates, it is necessary to elucidate the fundamental term that gives name the fourth, and perhaps, the project's definitive album, or, say, the alter ego of its creator.

"Songs From The Hypnagogic Cave", the title, sounds strange at first, starting with the cover, perhaps the font used may mislead the true intentions of the work, but as I mentioned at the beginning, the secret of everything is in the term Hypnagogic , and unraveling it will be very simple to understand the content.

Come on then, Hypnagogic, or translating into the beaten up Portuguese, Hypnagogics (os), are hallucinations experienced through sleep, these perceptual and lived experiences that happen in the beginning of sleep, basically consist of dreams that are related to visual, tactile and auditory, these hallucinations occur when the individual believes to be awake, it is possible to see, hear, feel, but there are no movements, for these factors such hypnagogic hallucinations are related to the dreaded sleep paralysis.

Well, having elucidated you, it is now simple, pleasant and indeed dangerous to enter the particular world of “Songs From The Hypnagogic Cave”. Sonically there is a fine line that can become mushy for other bands that want to venture into the dream pop universe, many works sound dated even before being appreciated, others tend to a superfluous ethereal aura that just doesn't work, which currently makes very few artists achieve an effective result.

In the case of Electric Lo Fi Seresta, on their journey through the hypnagogic cave, the songs unite with each other, there being no 'hits' here, but interlacing where each merges into the other, perhaps only in a single moment this link it is loudly shattered, most likely, in a premeditated manner by the author, it is “Gash Dance”, a moment where sleep / dreams can be broken, will depend on the size of your immersion in the work.

In this sleep / sonorous dream, the predominance of a gray and smoky aura directs the listener, obviously that Electric Lo Fi Seresta's dream pop goes beyond, far beyond the simple cuteness of his contemporaries: here, echoes of languid post punk works, read "Harmony" (The Wake), "In Silence" (Fra Lippo Lippi), serve as creative fuel, combined with the beauty and melodic exuberance of low aesthetic, which resembles the Dunedin scene.

“Songs From The Hypanogogic Cave” will have no effect on you, if you are not appreciated as you enjoy a story, your hearing should be done introspectively without any kind of outside interference, otherwise, never, see, you will never understand the world of sleep / dreams proposed by Guilherme, or Electric Lo Fi Seresta.

If you have already agreed, if not, look for a specialist.//
